Zagreb’s rich culture is a mix of Croatia’s traditions seasoned with traits of interaction with Greek, Roman and Bronze Age civilizations. The city’s records of ancient conquests and interactions with western civilization are stored in its numerous museums. 

Historically, the city came into existence around 305AD, and after much conquests, it was joined with Hungary in 1102AD. Zagreb has survived centuries of conquests, colonization and power struggles; this is seen in the diversified cultures and monuments within the city. Its years of interactions with various civilizations also influenced the style of architecture, religion and lifestyle. 

Zagreb’s economy is among the strongest in Europe. It is the wealthiest city in Croatia, with the highest GDP per capita of $ 19,132 compared to the Croatian average of $ 10,431. A large part of the economy is mostly dependent on industries such as metal, electrical, textile, chemical, pharmaceuticals, printing, food, drink and wood processing and leather industries concentrated in the city. As the economic capital of Croatia, a large percentage of the country’s industrial and service sector is clustered in Zagreb as 34% of companies have their headquarters in the city. 38.4% of the Croatian working class works in Zagreb, which includes banks, transport companies, tour and travel companies etc.

A 2019 Forbes magazine report places Zagreb at the top of emerging real estate markets in Europe. In the past twelve months, there has been a 30% increase in homes advertised for Airing, making it a substantial market for rentals. Zagreb’s property prices are on a slight rise fuelled by strong demand as well as limited housing supply. However, the surge in newly created dwellings by 18.6% is bound to stabilize the surging costs. The average rental price in the capital for an apartment is now €473, a decrease from the previous year’s value. Zagreb sees a boom in real estate and with that, investors are welcome at the table.
