Exceptional heritage, innovation, and a wide range of opportunities define Derby. Hosting the globe’s 30 top universities, it is a town that boasts great talents annually. With the town’s medieval cathedral section acting as an entry point to Peak District National Park, it attracts several visitors who want to see the scenic rolling hills and babbling brooks. Derby is also a perfect place to break away from urban life and experience the bliss of the surrounding Peak District. Governed by a unitary government, Derby is a very cultural and regional town. The town is currently ripe for real estate investments.

Culture, History, and Business

Derby started as a military settlement, hosting the Roman fort in 50 AD. After about four centuries, a group of Saxons settled in the region and established Little Chester. In the seventh century, the Danes captured the town and turned its name to Derby. With the arrival of traders, the town started to grow substantially. Derby became a very wealthy town after receiving a charter that allowed the residents to vote for two bailiffs in the 13th century. The establishment of brewing, cloth, and clock-making industries made the town continue prospering despite plague outbreaks. Derby has become one of the most attractive places in recent times, with public parks, museums, railway roads, and other developments coming in.

It’s not just history lovers that find Derby an interesting place to visit or stay. The town also boasts a rich culture. Located in the middle of the city is the Derby Museum and Art Gallery. It boasts a variety of historical materials and important collections. Another host of the town’s growing art scene is Derby QUAD. It has exhibitions, film screenings, several art events, and short courses. Moreover, Derby has regular farmers’ markets and an abundance of bars, restaurants, and cafes, suitable for food and drink enthusiasts. Musical performances, poetry events, and the use of sign language are also common in the town.

Apart from the charming history and culture, Derby’s business appeal doesn’t disappoint. The town has been among the top fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the UK since 2017, thanks to its favorable environment that allows micro-enterprises and entrepreneurs to grow. Derby’s 2017 GVA growth was second-best at 1.8%. It beat Leicester, Nottingham, Greater Manchester, Birmingham, and London. This is a sign that Derby’s economy is soon going to boom.
